Occupational Therapy

Christiana Schadegg MOT, OTR/L
Occupational Therapist, Director
Christiana is a native of Abilene, Kansas. She received a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology from Kansas State University in 2003 and a Masters of Occupational Therapy from Rockhurst University in 2006. Christiana has received clinical training at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri and mentorship study with Lucy Jane Miller at the STAR Center for Sensory Processing in Denver, Colorado. She is also certified in Sensory Feeding Therapy. Christiana has worked with pediatrics in both school based and outpatient based settings and was practicing pediatric outpatient therapy at the Tulsa Sunshine Center in Broken Arrow, Ok. Prior to moving back to Kansas. She specializes in treatment and regulation for children on the Autism Spectrum, with sensory processing deficits, ADHD/ADD and with sensory feeding difficulties. She also has experience with developmental delays, behavioral disorders, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, torticollis and brachial plexus injuries. Christiana and her husband Max live in Wamego, Kansas with their two children, Hazel and Cooper.

Petra Crosby MOT, OTR/L
Occupational Therapist, Associate Director
Petra is a native of Junction City, Kansas. She received a Bachelors in Occupational Science from The University of Kansas Medical Center in 2002 and a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from The University of Kansas Medical Center in 2004. Petra has worked in a variety of pediatric settings. She received clinical training in Southeast Kansas Birth to Three program. Petra then started her Occupational Therapy career at the Sherwood Center for the Exceptional Child in Kansas City, MO providing school and home based services for children with the primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. She then went on to work as a pediatric therapist at The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City working with children with a variety of neurological disabilities ranging from traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, spinal cord injury, autism, and sensory processing disorders. Petra developed therapy camps focusing in constraint induced movement therapy for preschool age, school age, and adolescents. She has had specialized training in Kinesio Taping, Constraint Induced Movement Therapy, Saeboflex, Theratogs, and Interactive Metronome. Petra has presented at The Brain Injury Association of Kansas 2012 Annual Conference on the topic of Sensory Processing. Petra returned to the area to work at Irwin Army Community Hospital in Fort Riley, Kansas to supervise an Occupational Therapy clinic for the Warrior Transition Battalion. She developed an all encompassing program to address the psychosocial needs for Soldiers dealing with anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress, and traumatic brain injuries in the transitional phase of their Army career. Petra and her husband Marc live in Manhattan, Kansas with their two children Ayla and Kord.

Shayna Sheridan COTA
Occupational Therapist
Shayna is originally from Junction City, KS. She graduated from Brown Mackie Kansas City in 2016 as an Occupational Therapy Assistant with an Associate of Science degree. Prior to that she attended the University of Kansas and received a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her previous experiences include caring for adults with developmental and physical disabilities in their home and community as a direct support professional. She has provided occupational therapy services within the extended school year program for Blue Valley school district. While living in Washington state for a year she worked at an inpatient/outpatient skilled nursing facility in Gig Harbor. Her hobbies include spending time with friends and family, exploring the outdoors, and cooking.

Gilbert Magallanes COTA
Occupational Therapist
Gilbert is originally from Lakin, KS. He graduated from Newman University in 2016 as an Occupational Therapy Assistant with an Associate of Science degree. He gained experience in pediatrics while completing a level II fieldwork in a pediatrics school-based setting working with developmental delays, Autism, down syndrome, and physical disabilities. His hobbies include spending time with friends and family, watching the Boston Red Sox, and attending K-State sporting events.

Emily Johnson MA, CCC-SLP

Emily is a Manhattan, Kansas native. She received a Bachelor of General Studies degree in Speech-Language and Hearing from the University of Kansas in 2009. She received her Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Kansas in 2011. Emily received her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 2012 and remains an active member. She is also an active member of the Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (KSHA). Emily has 3 years of experience working with school-age children with a variety of communication disorders. She completed several clinical placements during her graduate school training working with children and adults in outpatient clinics, preschools and elementary schools, as well as a skilled nursing facility. Emily has special interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder. She participated on a Communication, Autism and Technology Project during her training at the University of Kansas. Her participation included additional focused coursework and field experiences with augmentative and alternative communication and autism. Emily returned to Manhattan after completing her education in 2011. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, reading and participating in community activities.

Leslie McCutchen CCC-SLP

Leslie is a Pretty Prairie, Kansas native. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Kansas State University in 2008. She received her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Fort Hays State University in 2011. Leslie received her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 2012 and remains an active member. During graduate school Leslie completed clinical hours at an outpatient clinic working with children and adults, as well as clinical externships in the schools (elementary and middle) and at an outpatient rehabilitation clinic. Leslie has 4 years experience working in skilled nursing facilities where she provided inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation, and home health services. She has received specialized training in E-Stim (electrical stimulation) for the treatment of dysphagia. In her free time Leslie enjoys spending time with family and friends, the outdoors, and traveling.

Karen Roberts MA, CCC-SLP

Karen is a Salina, Kansas native. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Science and Disorder from Kansas State University in 2005. She received her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007. Karen received her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 2008 and continues to maintain her certification along with her membership to the Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (KSHA). Karen has 7 years of pediatric experience working with children with a variety of communication disorders in school-based settings (preschool-high school) as well as home-based early intervention. Her special interest areas are Autism Spectrum Disorders, Phonological Disorders, and Central Auditory Processing Disorder. Karen and her husband, Jordan, live in Manhattan and enjoy sporting events, spending time outdoors, and traveling.

Katie is a Gering, Nebraska native. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Fort Hays State University in 2015 and her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Fort Hays State University in 2017. Katie completed her clinical training in a rehabilitation hospital and a school district. Katie received her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association while working at a pediatric outpatient clinic in Lubbock, TX. Katie and her husband, Jay, enjoy spending time with friends and family, going to sporting events, and hanging out with their dogs, Annie and Finley.
Applied Behavioral Therapy

Alex Cave BA, BCaBA

Alex is originally from Augusta, KS. In 2014, she graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelors of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science. At the University, she completed 1,000 hours of practicum experience working 1:1 with a child with autism under the supervision of a BCBA in the Little Steps classroom. From June 2014 to 2016, Alex performed direct Applied Behavioral therapy with children with autism at two different clinics in Kansas. In August of 2016, she earned the Title of Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst. Over the past two years Alex has gained experience working under a BCBA assisting in completing assessments, updating programs, supervising RBT’s and providing parent training. Alex lives in Manhattan with her dog Tucker and enjoys taking and teaching Zumba classes in her free time.

Vanessa is from Los Angeles, California. She also spent part of her childhood in El Paso, Texas before moving to Kansas in the 10th grade due to being a military family. Vanessa received her RBT certification through the University of Kansas in November 2017. She has worked as an occupational therapy technician, as well as, an ABA technician at No Stone Unturned for 1 year and 9 months before starting as a Registered Behavior Technician in May 2017. In her spare time she enjoys yoga, reading, being outdoors and spending time with friends, family and her cat, Echo.

Jessica Nelson MS, BCBA, LBA

Jessica Nelson is a native of Manhattan, KS. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Special Education. Jessica has her Master of Science in Special Education from Emporia State University. Currently, she is in her final year of her doctoral program in Special Education at Kansas State University. With over 11 years of experience in the field, Jessica has worked with hundreds of students with Autism and behavioral challenges in grades ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade as well as in the home setting. Jessica lives in Manhattan with her husband Brent and their children, Finn, Lilly, and Liam.

Aubrey Jung BS, RBT

Aubrey spent the majority of her childhood in Manhattan, KS. She received a Bachelors of Science in Family Studies and Human Services from Kansas State University in December 2018. She has worked with children with autism since 2014. Aubrey has experience working with children in various settings including in-home, clinic, and school settings. In her spare time she enjoys going to concerts with friends, spending time with family, practicing photography, and playing with her cat and dog.
